New Year, New Jules

Like many people who embark on a another year, I too have "new year's resolutions." Yes, I have the ongoing resolution to lose some more weight, as my mother is always quick to remind me that one really should not carry 154 lbs on a 5 ft. body frame, especially since I haven't even had kids yet....There's the usual promise to eat better, etc. etc.

This year though aside from having those typical goals I decided that I would focus on goals that A. were realistic, B. attainable, and C. goals I REALLY wanted to work towards

So with that being said, I have decided to focus on my creativity. I want to make time to be more creative, spend extra money on stuff to build up my creative supplies, identify and plan out some cool new projects, and truly devote myself to strengthening my techniques, skills and actually COMPLETING every project I take on. WHOA...I got a lot of work ahead of me. LOL.

I have so many ideas and often just don't get around to doing them. I am creating a new "idea book" and plotting ways that I can promote, sell and get rich doing the stuff that I love. (I know, I know, aren't we all...)

But seriously, I find it hard to believe that God, or the universe would grant me all these creative ideas and energy if I wasn't supposed to do something wonderful with it. In many ways it seems like I have this gift that I am taking for granted, especially if I don't nurture and develop it.

So this year I am going to try to get into more art festivals, network with more of my creative GA Etsy Street Team members, try to get my stuff into a few shops, maybe learn how to work with metal, and offer more "Family Jules" creations in my shop that aren't jewelry.

Well folks, that's all I've got to say this morning. I hope to make some progress, have new things to report out on throughout the weeks, and expect a swift kick in the ass if I get too complacent and lazy! Advance thanks to my friends, family and other creative muses out there...

Work, Bead, Sell...

It's been a busy month for me. Between starting a new job with AVEDA, working on custom wedding orders, getting my house cleaned up for out of town guests, and creating my vintage jewelry shop...there's been little to no time to prepare for the upcoming holidays.

I'm not complaining, by no means, just wishing I had time to work on some new pieces for my shop and do some more holiday promoting.

It's hard to believe that October has come and gone and I have yet to work on some of the "great ideas" I have stashed away for idle time. What I HAVE been able to do, is update my shop with the following links:

September...

Sorry for the delay in updating everyone on what's going on with Family Jules. I've been bouncing around doing a number of things and have let my blog fall on the side for a bit.

I am back and getting re-focused for several upcoming projects. I am currently working on the bridesmaids jewelry for my friend Heather's wedding. Heather has great taste and looks great in just about every color. She likes artsy, funky, and vintage style things, so it was no surprise to me when she said "can you make all the necklaces and earrings unique and vintage looking?" (LOL)

I'm excited about this project, because I am challenging myself to create 3 pieces that represent each bridesmaid AND go well with the style of each of their dresses. The dresses are this warm and lovely pecan color, and made of raw silk. It has definately made me take a bit of a different approach with each piece, and matching stones to that fabric has been tricky...

All in all, they are coming out nicely so far, and I am slated to show Heather some "mock ups" in the next day or so. Other than that, I had spent the last few weeks ramping up my inventory for a festival that unfortunately got rained out. BUMMER! I guess the good thing is that I have a head start for the holidays, right?

With that being said, September is almost over, and soon my BUY ONE, GET ONE FREE earrings sale will be over too! There are still plenty of items up for grabs, so check it out before it ends. Also I will be announcing this month's Facebook fanpage winner! The winner will get to pick out a pair of earrings and a keychain from my shop, so keep your fingers crossed, it might be you!

In addition, I had an idea the other day and thought I'd put it out there for some feedback. I thought it would be fun to have people send me the name of a song, or a word, or maybe an image...something that I could use to get ideas and inspiration to make some new jewelry pieces.

I would then try to create a design inspired by the "song, word, image, etc." that you sent me. Then I would put the designs on my Facebook page for others to vote on. If the design I create using your "inspiration" is awarded the most votes, you get to keep it! Sounds fun, huh? I guess I will have to limit it to about 5 things though...otherwise I'll never finish. (LOL)
